Myrmecodia tuberosa- ant plants.
Myrmecodia is a fascinating genus of plants which forms a symbiotic relationship with ants and fungi. Hollow tunnels form within the plant’s caudex which provide habitats for any colonies high in the tree canopy in their natural habitat. The ants provide protection for the plant from other insects as well as their waste products providing nutrients for the plant.
They grow well mounted or in baskets with some sphagnum moss as a substrate. They require air circulation around their roots. They grow well with bright light and like to dry out between waterings.
Plants sold have 2-3cm diameter caudex.
